  1. Arsenal 5 – 2 Tottenham Hotspur: A turning point for the London clubs?

February 29, 2012 by Andy Brady

When Arsenal hosted Spurs a few days ago, the outcome seemed predictable: In their last two games, Arsenal had all but crashed out of the Champions League after a disastrous performance against AC Milan. This was followed by a disappointing display against Sunderland which led to the end of the Gunners’ FA cup run. Meanwhile, Spurs had demolished Newcastle by a five goal margin, and had rested a few key players in their FA cup draw to Stevenage. It seemed to everyone, including most Arsenal fans, that Spurs would achieve the double against Arsenal this season. It didn’t quite happen that way. Arsenal came out winners in a dominant display, after going down 0-2 after 33 minutes. That one result may have several consequences on the rest of the season for both teams.

This video shows Athletic Bilbao’s impressive defensive game plan against Barcelona in their league game. Led by their Argentinian coach Marcelo Bielsa, commonly known as Loco Bielsa, Athletic have been employing innovative tactics. Known for embracing youth, Bielsa’s first move was to dismiss three older players. He then brought in three youngsters to replace them: De Marcos (22 years old), Iturraspe (22 years old) and Jon Aurtenetxe (20 years old).

This video shows you exactly how his man-marking system works. Against strong sides he relies on good defensive performances which results in a more counterattacking approach, while against weaker sides he plays a tiki-taka possession style.

    Stuart Attwell

Stuart Attwell, the youngest person ever to referee in the English Premier League, has been demoted back to the Football League after a number of controversies.

Attwell’s biggest mistake occurred in a championship match between Reading and Watford. He awarded a goal based on linesman Nigel Bannister’s botched call. The ball bounced over the line, however, it was 3 meters away from the goal.

Here is a video of the incident:
