Why the F*@K is Montpellier so good?

Without the big-spending of PSG, the support of Marseille or the incredible front office of Lyon, Montpellier are on top of Ligue 1. Figuring out why a team promoted just three years ago is leading the title race could prove to be even more confusing than their success itself. Is it because the “top dogs” don’t have any teeth? Or is something special happening?

The Rise of Borussia Mönchengladbach

Borussia Mönchengladbach - a club that was struggling at the bottom of the Bundesliga table not even a year ago – is making waves this season. Yet this is nothing new for the club based in the city of Monchengladbach in the North-Rhine Westphalia. After the formation of the Bundesliga, Monchenglach had to struggle to enter the top tier of German football. However, once they were there, they did well and even challenged for titles with powerhouse Bayern. Impressively, they became the first Bundesliga club ever to successfully defend their title in 1971.

The scale of Milan’s task having to face Barcelona in the Quarter-Finals of the Champions League was evident from the day they were drawn together with arguably the strongest club side ever assembled in the history of football. Several weeks later, Milan now have to grapple with declining odds against a new and potentially deadlier opponent: the injury crisis that has struck Milanello, threatening to derail everything good they have achieved this season.

Let’s all do the Poznan!

If you’ve noticed something strange about Manchester City this season, you’re not alone. And no, it’s not the fact that they’re neck-and-neck with cross-town rivals United for first-place. It’s even odder: whenever City score a goal, their supporters inexplicably turn their backs to the pitch, join arms and jump up-and-down in near unison, turning the whole stand into a writhing mass of blue. They call it “the Poznan.” Here’s one of the first recorded instances of City supporters performing the bizarre celebration after Yaya Toure scored against West Ham in December of 2010:
