It’s now late July and the club teams which make up the Bundesliga only have one more month to sign, trade, and transfer new players for the 50th campaign of the season. Overshadowed by the EPL and La Liga transfers, the Bundesliga has already made exciting and intriguing signings that have gone under the radar in the soccer world. In no specific order, here are some of my favorites:

Olympic Football 2012: Players to Watch out For

This is a list composed of players that haven’t really garnered a great deal of fuss in the build-up to this tournament but could well prove decisive in this tournament for their country. Some you may have heard of, and some maybe new to you.
Alexis Rolin – Uruguay
Rolin should play at the heart of the Uruguayan defence alongside Liverpool’s Coates. The left-footed centre-back is a powerhouse – explosive off the mark, composed and fearless in his tackles. He comes into the tournament after a strong season with Nacional in the domestic Uruguayan league. His strong performances in this season’s Copa Libertadores also attracted strong interest from both Roma and Inter Milan. This tournament is the perfect opportunity for him to showcase his ability to the world and do not be surprised to see him playing for a major club very soon.

Ligue 1 Transfer Update – July 25th
Ligue 1 has lost some star players this summer with the exits of Olivier Giroud and Eden Hazard. Although these players will be missed, the league has imported some truly outstanding players this summer – mainly due to the exploits one club in particular. Here we detail those summer moves and several others from around the league. Jeremy Lim, our Serie A correspondent, will give us an intro on each of the four players to move from Serie A to PSG.

The Second World War to Perestroika: Ukraine’s Forgotten Legacy

Post War Troubles
Three years after the National Stadium was set to open, Kyiv was liberated from Nazi occupation by the Red Army. The banner that read “postponed until victory” on the original opening day of the war proved accurate. On June 25, 1944, three years and three days after the bombs of the Luftwaffe first fell on the city, the National Stadium finally opened its doors to the public, as Dynamo took on CDKA Moscow. Immediately after the match, however, it became obvious that the damage done to the stadium over the course of the occupation rendered it unsafe, and it was once again closed down for reconstruction. It was again reopened in 1948; all fans who managed to survive the war and hold on to their tickets for the original opening in 1941 were granted free access for life.
