Lost That (Loew)ing Feeling

The German media has been very critical of Joachim Loew since the defeat to Italy and rightfully so. German newspaper Bild hit the nail on the head by saying, “Mentality is often more important than quality.” The intensity and focus of the Italian display was something that blew Loew’s Germany out of the tournament. Italy showed exactly the characteristics he failed to instil in his own side.

Team News and Formation:
There was an element of surprise in Lowe’s selection choice for the quarter-final match against Greece by benching Podolski, Muller and Gomez. For this reason it is difficult to fully know what he will do tonight but I expect Podolski to come back in to the starting line-up as Schurlle did not impress against the Greeks. Reus on the other hand had a very strong performance so there is a chance he could retain his place ahead of Muller on the right. Klose still didn’t look fully match fit so it is likely Gomez will come back and regain his place in the team.

Euro 2012: France 0-2 Spain Match Report

Line-Ups and Formation:
Blanc surprised us by starting Anthony Reveilliere at right-back and playing Debuchy in front of him at the right-hand side of midfield. Malouda was also preferred to Samir Nasri and as expected, Laurent Koscielny replaced the suspended Mexes.
Del Bosque also had a slight surprise of his own in starting Cesc Fabregas as the false nine in place of Fernando Torres. All else remained as it were with the Spanish starting line-up.

Euro 2012: Russia 4-1 Czech Reublic

Line-Ups and Formation:
There were no real shocks in either line-up. Kadlec went to his normal role at left-back after it was thought he may be used as a centre-back. Both Rosicky and Baros were passed fit enough to start. For Russia the only change from their usual line-up was Malafeev starting ahead of the injured Akinfeev.
