It’s always great to see the biggest and the best teams squaring off against one another in the Premier League, but as well as that, it’s also nice to see some of the more ‘underappreciated’ sides being given a spotlight. This week’s Monday Night Football showcase certainly falls into the latter category, with Bournemouth preparing to go head to head with Crystal Palace in the top flight.
Both clubs have had interesting starts to the campaign to say the least, with the Cherries, in particular, setting their sights on some big things in this one. Eddie Howe’s men are currently down in 9th but could shoot themselves up into either 6th or 7th with a victory, as they continue to establish themselves as top flight regulars.
Palace, on the other hand, are in 13th, and a win would actually see them leapfrog Bournemouth and move into the top half themselves. These tidbits may not seem particularly important at such an early stage, but as we’ve seen before, momentum can be key in a division as unforgiving as the Premier League.
There are going to be extra eyes on this one which could end up having either a positive or a negative impact, and it really depends on how you look at it. Bournemouth tend to thrive in these high pressure scenarios, but Roy Hodgson has been around the block a few times and is no stranger to the EPL.
Neither team wants to be stuck in mid table throughout the course of the season, because as tempting as that is from a financial point of view, risking it all for the slim chance of tasting European football is more than worth it. We’ll see who is willing to take that next step tonight.
Who will come away with three points this evening?
