Friday Night Football has become something that we’re seeing more regularly this season, with teams getting the opportunity to kick their weekend off right before sitting back and seeing what everyone else can do. This week it falls to Cardiff City and Wolverhampton Wanderers to try and set the pace, and a few months ago, this would’ve been seen as a complete and utter mismatch.
Now, however, things are a little bit different, with Cardiff showing some fight and Wolves showing signs of faltering. It seems like everyone still believes that the Bluebirds will drop back down into the Championship but there’s a belief within that squad, and they’ll feel like they can push this race all the way until the final day.
Wolves, on the other hand, were considered to be the next big thing after a bright start to the campaign, but in the last few weeks they’ve been faltering in a big way. The loss against Huddersfield Town at the weekend was a particularly big knock given where they were in the table prior to the game, with many suggesting that Nuno Espirito Santo doesn’t have a plan B for when things go wrong.
Plus, we need to remember that these two sides still possess some bad blood for one another dating all the way back to last season. Neil Warnock wasn’t impressed with the manner in which Nuno behaved after Wolves’ dramatic win over Cardiff, and that may be a bit of an understatement in itself. It’s not like this is a blood feud or anything like that but it’s certainly got some stakes attached to it, and it seems like the pressure is certainly on Wolves above anyone else.
Can Cardiff City cause a somewhat minor upset and defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday Night Football?
