According to Sky Sports, reigning Premier League champions Chelsea are monitoring the situation of Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud.
The Blues were in talks with Roma to sign Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko before the transfer window shuts. However, it seems that talks have broken down with the Giallorossi over the move. Chelsea boss Antonio Conte will now need to look elsewhere to increase his striking options and Giroud may fit the bill.
The Blues are looking to add a target man to their squad, as a Plan B to Spanish striker Alvaro Morata. Stoke’s Peter Crouch, Burnley’s Ashley Barnes and Brighton’s Glenn Murray have all been mooted as potential transfer targets for Chelsea.
Any move for Giroud before the window closes depends on Arsenal completing the signing of Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gunners are locked in talks with the German giants. However, they have already seen two bids rejected for the Gabon international. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has stated that no players will leave the club unless they can bring in fresh faces.
Arsenal have already sold two attacking players in Chilean superstar Alexis Sanchez, who moved to Manchester United and England international winger Theo Walcott, who joined Everton.
Wenger signed highly-rated Armenian playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the Sanchez deal. However, the veteran French boss seems determined to land Aubameyang, who has been a reported Gunners target for the last few seasons.
Elsewhere, Arsenal are reportedly ready to make a late move for West Brom centre-back Jonny Evans. The Northern Ireland international had previously been linked with a move to both Arsenal and Manchester City.
While the latter has turned their attention elsewhere, Arsenal could still attempt to sign the former Manchester United star, who has just 18 months left on his contract at the Hawthorns. It has recently been revealed that the 30-year-old also has a relegation release clause in his contract.
