Reigning Premier League champions Chelsea host Championship Hull City on Friday night in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is under increasing pressure, as the Blues form has been mixed in recent weeks. However, a 3-0 home win over struggling West Brom last time out lifted the pressure slightly off the Italian’s shoulders.
The Blues are one of the favourites to lift the cup, having seen off Norwich City and Newcastle in the two previous rounds. The home side did need a replay to beat Championship Norwich.
Chelsea have a very strong home record at Stamford Bridge, as they have lost just one of their last 17 games on home soil in all competitions. Conte’s side have also kept clean sheets in six of their last eight competitive home games.
Hull City heads to Stamford Bridge in inconsistent form of late. The Tigers are currently just a point above the Championship relegation zone and this clash is likely to prove to an unwelcome distraction from the team’s fight for survival in the second tier.
Boss Nigel Adkins may choose to rotate his starting line-up and save his key players for the Championship games.
The Yorkshire outfit saw off fellow Championship sides Blackburn and Nottingham Forest in the previous rounds. A trip to Stamford Bridge is a completely different ball game and they will travel to the capital in hope more than expectation.
The visitors have a terrible away record in recent years, as they have won just three of their last 35 away games in all competitions.
The FA Cup is all about giant-killings. However, it is hard to see the Tigers going to Stamford Bridge and picking up a result. I can see the home side recording a comfortable victory in a high scoring encounter.
