City ease to victory

While the pitch may have been the big story last night courtesy of the NFL, the real tale coming out of Monday Night Football is that Manchester City are still considered to be the best team in English football – or at least one of the top two – after seeing off the challenge of Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs never really seemed to be on the game and while they had opportunities, City looked fairly comfortable despite the scoreline being a narrow 1-0.

Tottenham are a great side but they still have a long way to go before being considered title contenders, and last night proved that. Riyad Mahrez scored early on in the game and pointed to the sky in a nice touch for his Leicester family, and while some would argue the rest of the game was fairly boring, it was still intriguing in the sense that you just knew anything could happen at any given moment.

It didn’t, and now, Spurs have some questions to answer. They look destined to spend another season battling for the top four, they’re on the verge of exiting the Champions League, and Pochettino is being linked with a move to Real Madrid. If they don’t bring in some reinforcements during the January transfer window then we wonder where they’ll end up by the time May comes around, and that’s not an exaggeration.

City, on the other hand, certainly need to re-discover that killer instinct because on another day they could’ve easily come away with nothing. Regardless of whether or not it’s tomorrow or the next day, they’ll come unstuck and it’ll be interesting to see how they bounce back from it.

Do you think Manchester City will win the league, and do you think Tottenham Hotspur will be able to secure a place in the top four?
