According to the Daily Mail, Everton have emerged as the favourites to sign Arsenal’s £20million rated forward Theo Walcott. The Toffees are looking to strengthen their attacking options, despite the recent signing of Turkish international Cenk Tosun from Besiktas.
The Mail reports suggest that Arsenal may allow the England international to leave the club this month. Walcott has struggled for first-team action this season in north London.
The 28-year-old has made just five Premier League appearances this season for Arsene Wenger’s side this season, all from the substitutes bench. His eight starts this season have been in the competitions, where the veteran French boss usually fields his fringe players.
Walcott looks certain to move either in January or in the summer transfer window. Southampton are also reportedly interested in re-signing their former player. However, Everton are the favourites to sign Walcott, as they could match the forward’s £110,000 per-week wages.
Walcott would face a difficult decision if Arsenal were to accept a bid, as he has a young family in the south, so may choose Southampton and take a pay-cut to join the Saints.
Elsewhere, other media outlets are reporting that West Brom, Brighton and Crystal Palace are ready to battle it out for Everton striker Oumar Niasse, who the Toffees reportedly value at £13million.
Niasse has struggled for first-team football at Goodison Park and at one stage did not even have a locker at the Merseyside club under former boss Ronald Koeman.
However, he has scored goals in his cameo appearances for the Toffees this season. With New signing Tosun and the highly rated Dominic Calvert-Lewin ahead of him in the pecking order, he is unlikely to see much game time with the Toffees this season.
Niasse came close to joining Crystal Palace in the summer, so the Eagles may yet get their man in the January transfer window.
