In football, sometimes you just can’t understand what a player is thinking or feeling. This is exactly what happened to me yesterday when I saw John Guidetti, the in-form Feyenoord striker, remove his jersey after scoring a penalty. This behavior earned him a second yellow card and his marching orders.

The sad part is that he was playing a home game against RKC Waalwijk, a club in 11th place in the Dutch Eredivisie. Guidetti’s goal put Feyenoord in the lead but the visitors equalized in the 87th minute. Following his expulsion, Guidetti won’t be playing against PSV Eindhoven in one of the toughest matches of the season. He apologized to the fans after the game and explained that he “showed his emotions in the wrong way”.
