Liverpool in the driving seat against Roma in the Champions League

On Wednesday night, Liverpool has the chance to seal a place in the Champions League final, as the Reds face Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in the semi-final second leg. Jurgen Klopp’s side recorded a 5-2 win at Anfield in the first leg.

The home side has won four and lost four of their last eight Champions League clashes. The four victories have all been at the Stadio Olimpico, with the most famous one coming in a 3-0 win over Barcelona in the last round to see the Giallorossi seal a semi-final spot courtesy of an away goal at the Nou Camp.

A similar result would see Eusebio Di Francesco’s side head through to the final. A repeat of that result cannot be ruled out, as the team from the Italian capital have not conceded a goal in their last five Champions League games on home soil.

That stellar defensive record will face a big test, as Liverpool are the top scorers in the competition, with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane all in top form. However, the latter is doubtful for this clash after missing the Stoke game through injury.

Liverpool heads into this game on an unbeaten run of 15 games in Europe’s elite competition. In fact, Jurgen Klopp’s side are the only unbeaten team left in the competition.

The visitors have also recorded seven victories in their last nine games in Europe’s premier competition. The Merseysiders are now also undefeated in their last seven games on their travels in Europe, having recorded five wins on the road.

Roma are at their best at the Stadio Olimpico, but they have a massive task on their hands to overcome the three-goal deficit. However, I do believe the Giallorossi will win this clash, but it is hard to see Liverpool not scoring in Rome, so the Reds should book their place in the final in Kiev at the end of the month.
