According to Sky Sports, Newcastle are set to complete the signing of West Brom’s Venezuelan striker Salomon Rondon. The forward is set to undergo a medical in the north east on Monday.
The deal is reportedly a season-long loan deal, which will cost United £2million, with Magpies striker Dwight Gayle moving to the Hawthorns. Gayle is also reported to be in the Midlands having a medical ahead of the completion of the deal.
West Brom has previously been prolific in the Championship. Back in season 2016/17, the former Peterborough star scored 23 times in 34 appearances, as the Magpies won promotion back to the Premier League.
The Baggies struggled for goals last season in the top-flight and suffered a surprising 2-1 opening weekend defeat against Bolton Wanderers. Baggies boss Darren Moore will be keen to add new players to his squad after a rather quiet summer in the transfer market.
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has talked about the importance of adding fresh faces to his squad. However, speculation suggests that the Spaniard is not happy with his summer transfer kitty, with owner Mike Ashley once again reluctant to back the former Liverpool boss in the transfer market.
The Magpies boss has been able to strengthen his squad this summer bringing in the likes of Fabian Schar, Martin Dubravka, Ki Sung-Yeung and recently Japanese international striker Yoshinori Muto.
Newcastle kick-off their Premier League campaign with a home game against Tottenham, which is the top-flight’s early kick-off on Saturday. The game looks like a challenging one for the team from the north east.
This move looks a good one for both players, as Rondon gets a return to the English top-flight, while Gayle returns to a league that he has enjoyed success in the recent past.
Will Salomon Rondon be a good signing for Newcastle?
