PSG’s Brazilian superstar Neymar faces at least six weeks on the sidelines due to injury according to his father. The forward sustained the injury during PSG’s 3-0 defeat of Marseille in Ligue One on Sunday after a tackle from Bouna Sarr. The forward left the pitch on a stretcher and in tears.
There were fears that Neymar could miss the rest of the season. However, the player’s father told ESPN Brazil: “PSG know that they will not be able to count on Neymar for the upcoming matches: his treatment will last six to eight weeks, whether there is an operation or not,”
The news is a massive blow to big-spending French giants who had aspirations of winning the Champions League this season. PSG suffered a 3-1 defeat at European champions Real Madrid in the first leg of their last 16 tie.
The club from the French capital will now likely be without the forward for the return leg at the Parc Des Princes on March 6th. However, boss Unai Emery did say there was a slight chance he could feature in that clash.
It seems unlikely that the former Barcelona star will miss the World Cup. He has been in good scoring form this season scoring 28 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions. The Selecao will be hoping that he is fully fit to lead their attack in Russia, as the South American giants are one of the favourites to lift the trophy this summer.
Neymar has been the subject of constant speculation about a big money move to Spanish giants Real Madrid. He has yet to reveal what his future holds. However, he only joined the Parisian giant’s last summer for a world record fee of £200million from Barcelona, so it would seem a strange move.
Will Neymar be fit for the World Cup?
