Ozil could stay at Arsenal, but Sanchez likely to leave

According to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, there is still a chance that German playmaker Mesut Ozil will sign a new deal with the club, although he is resigned to losing Alexis Sanchez.

Sanchez and Ozil are both out-of-contract in north London this summer. Sanchez is reportedly a target for arch rivals Manchester City and Manchester United and could even leave this month.

However, Wenger believes that Ozil could remain in north London. At his weekly pre-game press conference, Wenger was asked if Ozil could stay at Arsenal. The French replied by saying: “Yes. There is still an opportunity for him to stay.

“These guys want to win, and they want to make money as well. So they want a combination of the two that big clubs can give them.

“Incidentally he’s won trophies with us. So he wants to fight as well for the Premier League, that’s normal when you are at that level.

“It looks like Sanchez will not extend his contract, but we want to keep Jack and if we have an opportunity maybe to keep Ozil, the rebuild will be less deep than if all three left.”

The Jack that Wenger is referring to in his above press conference is Jack Wilshere, as the England international midfielder also only has an Arsenal contract until the summer. However, unlike his two teammates it is believed that the former Bournemouth loanee wants to stay at the north London club.

The Gunners are already in negotiations to sell winger Theo Walcott to Everton for a mooted fee of around £20-million. The negotiations were confirmed in the Toffees boss Sam Allardyce’s press conference on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Daily Star are reporting that Arsenal are hoping to complete a double swoop for Bordeaux forward Malcom and PSG winger Julian Draxler. With all the prospective outings, the north London side will need to bring in new recruits to fill the voids left by the exits.
