We are back with our FPL ones to watch series. Gameweek 24’s three picks all returned points, as Riyad Mahrez scored, while Theo Walcott and Xherdan Shaqiri both produced assists. However, we are aiming even higher this week. Here are this week’s picks:
Johan Berg Gudmundsson (Burnley, £5m)
The Icelandic winger has been producing the form, but not the points return of late for the Clarets. In fact, he has created more goalscoring opportunities in the last four gameweeks of any midfielder, a very creditable 14. He even created three big chances in those gameweeks.
The former Charlton ace is on set-pieces with Robbie Brady sidelined and could profit this weekend, as Sean Dyche’s men visit Newcastle. Four of Burnley’ next five games rank a difficulty of two, including this weekend’s encounter, so the fixtures also favour the winger.
Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool, £5.5m)
The big Dutchman offers potential at both ends of the field. The Reds have defended poorly at times this season, but have recorded their fair share of clean sheets. The new recruit is the sort defender that FPL players love, a defender that can contribute in attack.
Van Dijk has made just one appearance for Liverpool in the top-flight, which came in a 1-0 defeat at Swansea. Despite conceding, Van Dijk helped create two opportunities. With a trip struggling Huddersfield in gameweek 25, the Dutchman could be a shrewd investment.
Bakary Sako (Crystal Palace, £4.9m)
Midfielder could be the ultimate enabler for your team, in that he is a goal threat and his low price tag means you are able to bring in assets that are more expensive. For much the season, the former Wolves star has been a fringe player.
However, he has shown in flashes that he is very capable in front of goal with three league goals in his limited minutes on the pitch. He has played the full 90 minutes in the last two games and has played up front close to striker Christian Benteke. A midweek trip to an injury-ravaged West Ham could give the midfielder a chance to add to his points tally this season.
Who will be stand out players FPL players in midweek?
