According to Spanish publication AS, PSG striker Edinson Cavani is now Real Madrid’s first-choice replacement for the departed Cristiano Ronaldo.
Priced out of a move for Hazard
Los Blancos had been heavily linked with a big-money move for Chelsea forward Eden Hazard. However, reportedly Chelsea have slapped a price tag of around £178million on the former Lille star.
The European champions have baulked at the fee, so have decided to look elsewhere for players to strengthen their squad for the new season. This summer is not the first time Hazard has been linked with a switch to the Spanish capital, as it now seems an annual story.
Cavani prolific goalscorer
Edinson Cavani has been a prolific scorer of goals in European football for nearly a decade now for the likes of Palermo and Napoli prior to his move to the French capital from Napoli five years ago.
In fact, the 31-year-old is now PSG’s all-time leading goalscorer having scored 170 goals in his five seasons in Paris. The South American forward’s ability is underrated when it comes to sniffing out goals.
PSG would be unlikely to part with the forward in normal circumstances. However, reports from the French media continue to suggest that Cavani and Brazilian superstar Neymar do not see eye-to-eye, so a move could be possible.
Cavani would score goals for the European champions
There is no doubt that Cavani would score goals for Real Madrid should he join this summer. He is a goal poacher, and with the likes of Gareth Bale, Marcos Asensio and Isco as a supporting cast, the striker could match his scoring tally in Paris.
It remains to be seen if Real Madrid can complete the signing of Cavani. He certainly would not be a shabby replacement for Ronaldo that is for sure.
