Arsenal’s Chilean international star Alexis Sanchez was left out the Gunners squad for their trip to Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium on Sunday. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that a resolution on the forward’s future is very close.
Speaking to Sky Sports before the clash on the south coast, Wenger said: “He [Sanchez] is being vague at the moment.
“His situation is not completely decided one way or the other, so I left him at home.”
Asked whether a resolution is “fairly imminent”, the Gunners boss replied: “Yes. Don’t read too much into it, because even I don’t know really what way it will go.”
Sanchez’s future has dominated transfer talk at the north London club, along with the future of fellow attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil. The 28-year-old is out-of-contract at Arsenal and he is set to leave the Gunners either this month or next summer.
The north London club are reportedly open to selling the forward this month in an effort to recoup some money from the forwards departure.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with an imminent move for the forward. United boss Jose Mourinho has also recently admitted his liking of the forward. However, United’s arch rivals Manchester City are still favourites to sign Sanchez.
The forward has a good relationship with Citizens boss Pep Guardiola from their time together at Barcelona. City came close to signing Sanchez in the summer, only for a last-gasp deal to fail. The men from Manchester were expected to sign Sanchez on a free transfer in the summer.
However, not only are United seemingly competing for the forward’s signature, but also Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool. The omitting of Sanchez from the Gunners squad has obviously led to increased speculation over the player’s future.
Will Alexis Sanchez leave Arsenal in the near future?
