As reported by Metro, legendary Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has told Bernd Leno that he needs to be patient as he waits for his chance in the Gunners’ first team. The German made his way over to the Emirates in the summer in a multi million pound deal, and it soon became obvious that he was destined to become the club’s number one goalkeeper at some point in the near future. Alas, it hasn’t happened overnight, with Petr Cech maintaining his place in the first team throughout the course of the season thus far.
Seaman’s advice, however, is pretty much all you need to know because there’s nothing more that Leno can do other than wait. Either Cech will make a mistake that leads to him being dropped, or Unai Emery will start to see more value in starting Leno. The youngster just needs to showcase his maturity by not allowing this situation to frustrate him because we all know that he’s destined to take the reigns from Cech sooner rather than later.
Arsenal have had a mixed start to the season but nothing has really been Cech’s ‘fault’, and after his strong pre season form, it seems as if Emery will stick with him at least until January barring an injury or anything of that nature. There’s no doubting that he’s earned that right across his many years of service in the English game, and it doesn’t really seem like the Gunners faithful are all too opposed to the current situation.
They can recognise that through this method, Leno is able to watch Cech and learn from someone who has been playing at this level for well over a decade. That’s not something you get to experience every day, and he should embrace it.
When will Bernd Leno become Arsenal’s number one?
