The Arsenal surge

There are plenty of clubs that have made a lot of noise this season when some fans didn’t expect them to. Watford, Bournemouth, Wolves and Chelsea are all good examples of teams who are making some waves, when a lot of people weren’t necessarily tipping them for great things. Alas, that’s the nature of this game and it’s one of the reasons why we love it, but many fans are sleeping on another team who appear to be performing better than anyone could’ve imagined: Arsenal.

The popular theme across the last few seasons has been to mock the Gunners courtesy of their failings under Arsene Wenger. The Frenchman’s final few months in charge of the club made it feel like the writing was indeed on the wall, but in this new regime with Unai Emery, it seems as if the tides are turning.

People don’t want to be too quick to give them praise and we understand that, but it’s difficult to win nine games in a row at any level – let alone amongst England’s elite. Sure, that was in all competitions and there’s still a long way to go, but given how they were performing on a week to week basis prior to Emery arriving, there’s cause for optimism at the Emirates.

The top four is still going to be viewed as a ‘realistic’ goal for them, and fans probably shouldn’t expect or anticipate a push for the title just yet, but why not dream? It’s nice to be in a position where you can feel positive about your club’s chances throughout the course of any given season, and lord knows that Arsenal fans have been through a lot in the last few seasons.

Can Arsenal finish in the top four and return to the Champions League next season?
