We only need to take a quick look at the Eredivisie table to understand why it’s the most exciting league to follow.
As we can see, the top 6 clubs are all within 5 points of one another. FC Twente have a game in hand while Heerenveen is on a perfect run and have won all of their last five matches. The strongest defense in the league at the moment is AZ Alkmaar with 21 goals conceded and the strongest attack goes to FC Twente with 58 goals scored.
Let us hope that we see a repeat of the 2006/2007 season where three clubs, PSV, Ajax, and AZ, went into the last game of the season all on 72 points. The championship was decided on goal difference. PSV won it with a difference of +50 versus Ajax’s +49.
Another league that is really competitive right now is the Bundesliga; with the top four teams within 5 points of one another.
Similar to Heerenveen, Borussia Dortmund is on a perfect run at the moment with seven consecutive league matches wins. Interestingly, Schalke 04 have the strongest attack with 50 goals scored compared to Bayern Munich’s 49 goals. The toughest defense goes to the surprise of the season, Borussia Mönchengladbach. Who would have thought that they would be on the top of the table after being on the verge of relegation in the 2010/2011 season.
