The Sadio Mane effect

After a fantastic start to the Premier League campaign, many fans are naturally feeling pretty excited about Liverpool’s chances of lifting the trophy for the very first time. Jurgen Klopp has been able to build a squad that is more than capable of challenging at the top of the table, and now, it’s just a case of maintaining the kind of consistency necessary to compete with Manchester City and Chelsea.

Of course, while it may be a team effort, a handful of players have been viewed as the standout stars of the current operation at Anfield. Mohamed Salah is the main man that everyone has been talking about, and while he’s had a few questionable moments so far this season, he’s still viewed as one of the best players in world football.

The figures associated with Roberto Firmino’s current run of form makes him the somewhat ‘number two’ to Salah, which, unfortunately, leaves many to underrate the fantastic Sadio Mane.

The forward already has four goals so far this season, and since arriving from Southampton, he seems to have served as the combo-breaker in terms of notable players from around the Premier League making the jump to Liverpool. At first he seemed to be more of a provider, but over time, his finishing has made him one of the most deadly names in the top flight today.

If Salah or Firmino were to leave the club then it feels like they could be replaced in the same way as Coutinho was, but we really do believe that Mane is invaluable in terms of having that ‘he can score from everywhere’ type of persona. That might sound like we’re overestimating him just a bit, but all it takes is one moment of magic from him to change any game he plays in.
