It seems that the future of former Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel is causing a stir in his native Germany. Rival media outlets Kicker and Bild are claiming two different things about the German’s future.
Kicker are reporting that the former Mainz boss is close to agreeing on a move to Premier League Arsenal, having turned down the chance to take over at Bundesliga overlords Bayern Munich. The decision to turn down Bayern is reportedly because he wants to manage in a foreign league.
Meanwhile, Bild are claiming that the German is more likely join big-spending French club PSG. The latter also claims that Chelsea are highly interested in speaking with Tuchel about replacing current boss Antonio Conte this summer.
Waiting for the right job
For some observers, it is a major surprise that Tuchel is still out of work. The 44-year-old is seen as one of the brightest young tacticians in the European game. However, it seems that Tuchel was just biding his time until the right job became available.
The German was heavily linked with a move to north London last summer, only for veteran boss Arsene Wenger to renew his contract with the club.
The fact that Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislintat and Tuchel worked Dortmund together and endured a difficult relationship may be a negative against a move to north London.
Is likely to be at a big club next season
Tuchel is a football man and it seems the German is unlikely to be out of work beyond the summer. I now looks likely that he will be managing at a big club next season, wherever that may be.
He showed real managerial promise with both Mainz and Dortmund. It would be very interesting to see how he would do with a club with major financial resources.
Where will Thomas Tuchel be managing next season?
