According to Sky Sports, Everton forward Wayne Rooney is in Washington to hold talks over a move to MLS outfit DC United.
Speculation had been rife about the 32-year-old making the move stateside for the last few weeks. It seems the forward is now one step closer to leaving his boyhood club after just one season back on Merseyside.
Rooney finished as the Toffees top goalscorer last season for the Toffees after returning from Manchester United last summer.
The Sky report also suggests that Rooney could even have a medical while in the US capital. DC United have yet to agree on the details of the transfer with Everton, but the Merseysiders are reportedly keen to offload Rooney’s wages, as the clubs new director of football Marcel Brands looks to overhaul the Toffees squad.
The former PSV man arrived to take control of off the field football matters. The Toffees squad was poorly was balanced last season, which will be one of the issues the highly-rated brands will not at resolving.
Silva set to become the new Everton boss
According to reports, the Merseysiders will appoint Marco Silva as the clubs new boss in the next week. The Portuguese boss has been linked with the Toffees for close to a year.
However, former club Watford still have an issue with Everton over their repeated approaches for the highly-rated Portuguese boss last October when seeking a replacement for Ronald Koeman.
In fact, the despite sacking Silva in January due to the team enduring a poor run of form, the Hornets have still lodged a complaint against Everton for destabilising the team by their approach for their Portuguese boss.
No doubt the club believe that the matter is far from settled and are still seeking compensation. However, it is unknown if the Hornets official complaint will affect Silva’s appointment.
Does Wayne Rooney still have something to offer in the Premier League?
