The World Cup has reached the quarter-final stages. The big objective for most in Russia is obviously to lift the trophy in just over a week’s time. However, there is also the individual award of the Golden Boot up for grabs this summer. Here are the frontrunners for the award:
Harry Kane (England)
The England captain leads the race to win the prestigious award at Russia 2018 with six goals. The 24-year-old Tottenham star has scored in all three of his appearances at the finals.
The highlight of his World Cup so far was a hat-trick against Panama in a 6-1 win. A tough clash with Sweden waits for the striker in the quarter-finals. Even if the Three Lions suffer elimination, Kane could still win the award.
Romelu Lukaku (Belgium)
Like Kane, Lukaku has been a prolific scorer of goals in the Premier League in recent seasons. The 25-year-old has also been prolific for the Red Devils. In fact, the striker is his country’s top goalscorer with 40 goals.
Lukaku has also made a significant mark on the World Cup, scoring four times. The big forward will fancy his chances of catching Kane. However, Belgium faces a daunting quarter-final clash with tournament favourites Brazil, so he may not remain in the competition much longer.
Kylian Mbappe (France)
The youngster enjoyed a slow start to the World Cup campaign. However, after bagging a brace against Argentina in the last-16, the 19-year-old is now on three goals at Russia 2018.
Les Bleus face a test of their World Cup-winning credentials in the quarter-finals, as Didier Deschamps side face the tough Uruguayan.
Artem Dzyuba (Russia)
The giant striker started the tournament on the bench for the host nation. However, after coming on in the first game and finding the net, he is now on three goals in the competition. The hosts face a big challenge to progress to the last four, as they face the highly talented Croatia in the last eight.
Edinson Cavani (Uruguay)
The highly prolific PSG frontman has found the net three times at World Cup 2018 after a short international goal drought. The 31-year-old scored a double against Portugal last time out in the last 16.
However, the former Napoli star is expected to miss the quarter-final clash with France due to injury. In fact, he may not recover to add to his goal tally in Russia.
Other worthy mentions
Denis Cheryshev (Russia, Three goals)
Neymar (Brazil, Two goals)
Luis Suarez (Uruguay, Two goals)
